To: John Chambers From: Dave & Flo Hearn Subject: Halloween program for Brookline Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2006 21:22:15 -0400 Hi John: Evelyn told me she asked you to play for the Brookline Class Halloween party on Sunday, October 29. Thank you for agreeing to be our musician. The class starts at 6:30. There have been a lot of beginners at class, so I have dropped some of the "regular" more difficult dances. 1) The Loch Ness Monster, 5x32R, A circle dance, Iain Boyd, Happy To Meet. The suggested recorded music is "The Black Dance" by Jimmy Shand, but any good reel will be fine. There is no setting. Only slip step and skip change. The dancers change partners with each repetition. I'm using this as a warm-up". 2) The Mad Hatter, 8x32J, Iain Boyd, Happy To Meet. No tune suggested. Any good jig. This shows up occasionally on party programs. 3) Sugar Candie, 8x32S, RSCDS Bk.26-9. 4) The Enchanted Isle, 8x32R (2C), Iain Boyd, Katherine's Book. A few years ago for Halloween, I used the same figures, but used Strathspey music. It's really a reel. There is music in the dance book, but any good reel will be fine. There is no setting. Only skip change and slipping circle. 5) The Tattie Bogle, 8x32J, Derek Haynes, First Carnforth Collection. Music suggested: "So I'm Off With the Good St. Nicolas Boat", but any good jig is fine. This will be for experienced dancers only (I & A). 6) Ghost Dance, 4x32S (4C set), A. Girards. Any good Strathspey. I searched MiniCrib for Halloween sounding names. I actually don't have the original publication. The 2nd couple (ghosts) follows the 1st couple in half of the dance (bars 1-8 [down the middle & up] and 17-24 [reels of three]). 7) The Scottish Werewolf, 6x32J (3C set), Denise Sander, Happy To Meet. Suggested recorded music is "Tayport Beauty" by the Olympians, but any good jig is fine. This dance really brought out the weirdness of the dancers last year!. This was written for a 3 couple set. I seem to remember doing it in a 4 or 5 couple set also - once and to the bottom with a repeat. Can you be flexible? 8) The De'il Amang the Tailors, 8x32R, RSCDS Bk.14-7. 9) Closing Waltz I liked dancing on the grave of Neil Gow's 2nd wife from last year!
