Kerry Polka???
I know that tunes are normally played in a set of three.
If you were doing a 3 polka set which included or began with the Kerry Polka, what would the other two polkas you would include?

Assuming this is the alternative name for Egan’s polka, we’ve played it with John Ryan’s and Dennis Murphy’s.

Kerry Polka (Egan’s), Rattling Bog and Ballydesmond 2 is a set we play quite often.

Yes, The Kerry Polka appears to be the same tune as Egan’s Polka. Except I have a shortened version of from Nigel Gathered website which has the same melody but only a part A and no part B. But I’m sure it the same tune.

Hi Struggler, are you playing at any sessions in Cape Cod? With Mike Connolly, by any chance? If so, he plays The Kerry with Marie’s Wedding and Portlairge. He winters down here in my neck of the woods.

Egan’s Polka (I refuse to call it the Kerry) always sounds better if played a couple ot times in G, then a couple of times in D, before changing to whatever you fancy. Incidentally when I first learnt Egan’s Polka some fifty years ago, it had three parts to it. Strangely over the ensuing years the first part disappeared leaving part two and three as the main tune.

BTW, I do know Mike Connolly. An amazing man who plays harmonica with a disability many of us would have trouble coping with let alone handle

Hi folks I’m new here and only came on to see if you could help with a query of mine. You all sound like experts so I’m a bit of a philistine I’m afraid. It concerns the Pogues’ version of " South Australia ". The second half goes into an instrumental that I know from childhood but don’t know the name of. On their box set a demo version of it is titled " The Kerry polka" so I took that as that. However some are now saying on web that it ISN’T. Some say it’s " The salmon tales " or something like that ? Could anybody tell me for definite if it is "TKP" and if not what is it ? Thanks, Dermo.
