The conn button attempts a connection to a POP  server.  You
must  first  make sure that the information (host, user, and
password) needed by the server is all filled in.

If the connection is successful, we will send the user login
id and the password.  The result should be a comment in  the
stat  line below saying how many messages there are for that
user.
