T:Old Joe's Jig
T:The Gullane Jig
T:The Old Bush
S:Kilkenny Tavern sessions, London
B:Dave Mallinson, 1995, Enduring Session Tunes, No. 35.
N:Popular in London for céilí dancing as both 'The Old
N:Bush' or 'Old Joe's Jig'. Pat Clune often starts off
N:with this tune and plays it through three times.
N:It does not seem to be particularly old and the title
N:may be a corrupted version of 'Old John's Jig', named
N:after John Mahinney Barnard of Gneevegullia.
N:Its ancestor may be the tune in Kerr's Merry Melodies,
N:Vol. 2, No. 238, as 'Short Grass', under which title it
N:appears in O'Neill.
N:Compare with Moylan, 'Johnny O'Leary', No. 1, as 'The
N:Gullane Jig'.
