T:Gipsy's Hornpipe
S:Kilkenny Tavern sessions, London
N:A 19th century Lancashire hornpipe, processed into
N:a slow solo set dance-type tune. Widely known in
N:the English tradition as a country dance melody,
N:but the title is a floater applied to many unrelated
N:tunes.
N:In Waifs & Strays, No. 321, O'Neill gives a quite
N:similar version as 'Boys of Ballycastle', sourced
N:from 'Patrick Dunne MS'. Ballycastle is in Antrim,
N:separated from Lancashire only by water.
N:Also in Michael Raven, 1984, 'One Thousand English
N:Country Dance Tunes'.
