These tunes were originally published in various issues of the
Irish Pipers' Club newsletter, Iris na bPiobairi, the Pipers' Review.
They were published in the hope of providing a few common tunes for
uilleann pipers, so it seems appropriate to reprint them here to give
them a wider exposure.

From the article in the Review:

The manuscript tunes given here are lesson pieces played in
Seattle. Many people from around the country have asked for the
inclusion of some tunes in the Review in order that a common
repertoire can be established. We know well how different regions have
dissimilar bodies of tunes. This is the first step.

The [first] two polkas were collected in Newmarket, Co. Cork in
1975 from the playing of local musicians. The reel "The One-Horned
Cow" (The Half-horned Cow) is after the playing of Liam Walsh, a
Waterford piper (see IPC tape #3). The Lodge Road is a set dance tune
after the playing of Sean Maguire, combined with some of the features of
the air in O'Neill's 1001 Gems. Miss Monaghan and the Irish Rover are
after the piping of Leo Rowsome. The double jig When the Cock Crows...
is rather faithful to Seamus Ennis' version, and the Mist on the
Valley is largely from the flute-playing of Charley Higgins, Drumkeerin,
Co. Leitrim.

Johnny Mickie's Slide is from the playing of Denis Brooks and is
copied from a manuscript of his. It also goes well when transposed in G.
Denis learned it while living in northwest Cork.

The final three polkas are from Denis Brooks, who associates them
with a great session that took place at the Top of Croom in West Cork whith
Peter Heelan, Sabra Daly and Seamus Creagh in 1988. They make a nice set.
